Symfony deployment trouble

Over the past few days I’ve tried to deploy my symfony project on to a live FTP server, but so far nothing works. I’ve read all the documentation, started a new symfony project to keep it small and simple, installed apache pack, set my ENV to production etc and I stil get errors.

if i go to www.websitename.com i get 403 forbidden error. if i add /public/ after it i get the 500 internal server error

My directory looks like this.

/webspace/httpdocs/websitename/symfony

/webspace/httpdocs/websitename/public

inside the symfony folder I have my bin, config, src templates, translations, vendor and composer.json

inside my public folder I have the .htaccess and index.php files

I hope this is clear enough to be able to understand what I’m talking about.

it’s probably important to note that at the start of /webspace/ there’s also a .htaccess file but I cannot access it, maybe that’s the cause of the problems?

Thanks in advance.
